Rare and important historical work officially documenting Champollion' s deciphering of ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics by the illustrious French Academy. Illustrated with 5 folding lithographed plates and 3 colored large folding lithographed plates depicting ancient Egyptian writing on papyrus.

In the original blue plain paper wraps as issued by the binder/ printer. Deckled edges, text block untrimmed, many folding text leaves still joined at top and unopened as issued.

Light minor scattered foxing, dustiness and light signs of age and handling, surviving nearly as issued. Any age flaws are relatively minor and easy to forgive or overlook.
