U.S. President Joe Biden received cheers and waves from a small crowd on Sunday (January 24) as he left a church service in the historic Washington neighborhood of Georgetown.

Biden, who is only the second Roman Catholic to become U.S. president, has frequently discussed how his Catholic faith has guided his actions as a public official.

Biden captured the U.S. presidency in November as voters narrowly rebuffed Republican Donald Trump's tumultuous leadership and embraced Biden's promise to fight the coronavirus pandemic and fix the economy in a divided nation.

One of Biden's top economic aides on Sunday will press Democratic and Republican senators for a fresh $1.9 trillion in coronavirus relief to help struggling Americans and avert a larger economic crisis.
