When this bride took the microphone, the room – filled with so many of her friends and loved ones – fell almost immediately silent. What she had to say was, of course, incredibly moving. But it was at the end of her speech that this bride surprised everyone with an amazing act of generosity.

We all know that a bride’s wedding day is supposed to be all about her. But that was not the case for this particular bride. No, she took it upon herself to do something spectacular for others – and it all started when she took the microphone at her wedding reception.

You see, the bride’s groom was seated at a table to her left, and there were six guys crowded around him. It turned out, in fact, that the bride’s speech was as much directed to these men as it was to her husband.

She began, then, by describing the men as “brothers, in one way or another.” It quickly became clear, if the guests didn’t know already, that these men were all cops – and that the bride had a special message for them all.

The bride then started listing all the ways that she could think of to describe men like them. And she clearly thought a lot of them because she described them as being “brave, courageous, headstrong, heroes, role models, selfless.”

“These are the only people you can truly rely on to be there in your most urgent time of need,” she told the audience. But this bride wanted to address another aspect of being a police officer.

She talked about the way that policemen, just like her husband, are often treated unfairly by the general public. “The lack of respect these men receive on a daily basis is disturbing,” she said.

She went on to recount an incident where officers had rocks and bottles thrown at them – as they just tried to do their jobs. And she praised the men’s bravery for continuing to serve in spite of the abuse that they receive on the street.

“But still, every day, these men get up, put their uniform on and head out for their shift to protect these people who are acting against them,” she continued. Then she reminded her audience of something that many of us may well be guilty of forgetting.

“Remember when a call goes out they do not have a choice whether they go or not,” the bride said. “They do not choose the call they want to respond to. They will show up willingly without any hesitation.”
