Test Gun: S&W Bodyguard 380, 2.75" Barrel
Test Taken: 10 Feet
Round Tested: DoubleTap Ammunition 80gr CHP (Copper Hollow Point - Barnes TAC-XP bullet)
It's getting warm around here, so time to get to shooting more pork shoulders. Just to those new to looking at these videos, I do not throw away the meat. I cut it up, bake it and make pork bbq out of it, and also feed it to my dogs :)
For this test we borrowed my friend's Bodyguard .380. He had two defensive loads: The 90gr Hydra Shok, and the 80gr DoubleTap load with the Barnes CHP bullet.
Results: The bullet failed to penetrate the pork shoulder. It traveled roughly 6-7" into the meat and impacted the bone head on, which caused it to shift upwards and stop penetrating.
The Bullet expanded to near identical measurements as the water jug test. Wound cavity definitely had more tearing in the first 1-3" than the Hydra Shok load. It was no more than 2" wide though.
The bullet broke off a top piece of the bone, but otherwise did not break it. Hard to say if this load would have made it all the way through or not. Based on the fact that the bone had not received any critical damage, (and the limited penetration this round showed in water), it may have been close.
Very impressive expansion, but OK penetration. Definitely NOT a round you want, when you need 12"+
