Remember... there are no more oceans, (Rev 21) sun, or moon on the "new" earth. We have no idea how big or what shape the new earth will be.
Also, the earth is Christ's footstool, and David will rule on earth while we rule with Christ for the duration (thousand year) of the Day of the Lord. Heaven must receive Him until the restoration of all things, which is after all the events described in Matthew 23:3.
