Sending these three tanks down that road through the village, alone, them probably trying to get to a place, without much intel/reconnaissance, while the Ukrainians can move and hide/conceil anti-tank teams, that sounds like a dangerous recipe. Otherwise wondering, BMPs etc. conventionally sometimes try to release smoke screens, to avoid becoming all-to-easy targets and ideally escape.

8:49 Looks like another miss (!) that's falling a bit short.

2:12 Except doesn't work if the tank ends up hit (instead of a miss - looks like a miss, doesn't it?), then vehicle/ammunition/crew might be messed up by shrapnel, burning or in smoke, also blocking the road/firing-angle for the column. Firing, better than nothing, also for smoke and distraction. Guess if the enemy has the advantage/initiative, firing + backing up is better than trying to communicate/notify to find out where the enemy is (given smoke and camouflage). Hesitation probably by crew being scared, or reload times if their own first shot isn't on target (for failing to make it out) or misses. Just probably no point in trying to attack in such a situation.
