They all concluded correctly (with less light then we have today) by studying the scriptures, that the Roman church and its Popes, where the very seat of the antichrist. (1 John 2:18)

--The feet and ten toes of iron and clay from Daniel chapter two.

--The little horn of Daniel chapter seven.

--The king of the north, in part, from Daniel chapter eleven.

--The beast from out of the sea from Revelation chapter and verse; 13:1-10.

--The beast that "that was" & "is not" & "yet is" of Revelation chapter 17.

--That man of sin, the son of perdition from 2 Thessalonians chapter and verse; 2:3

--The type:

Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath [noun, H7676] throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant.

It is a sign [oath] between me and the children of Israel *for ever*: [From the fourth / seal commandment] for in six days YHWH made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, [prime root verb, H7673 sabath] and was refreshed.

And YHWH hath avouched thee this day to be HIS *peculiar people*, as he hath promised thee, and that thou shouldest keep all his commandments;
{Deuteronomy 26:18}

--The antitype:

But ye [strangers scattered throughout Asia Minor] are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a *peculiar people*; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:

Which in time past were not a people, but are now *the people of God*: [Jeshurun] which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

And the dragon [satan] was provoked to anger with the woman, [the Church of Christ] and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ. (which is the spirit of prophecy)
{Revelation 14:17}

Here is the perseverance of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith OF Jesus.
{Revelation 14:12}

--Questions: was it not God who determined what test he would give to his people, "to try them that dwell upon the earth" in the last days?!

Then why do so many falsely assume that it is man [antichrist] who tries them with the mark of the beast?

The mark of the beast can only be in contrast to the mark / seal of God.

How they choose to enforce the mark is irrelevant to the mark itself, which is the object of that enforcement.


Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: [they are not ten suggestions] for this is the whole duty of man.
