And had the ROLES BEEN REVERSED, the 'UKRAINIANS' would have CERTAINLY executed 'the Russians' EVEN IF they had 'benefit of communication' first to negotiate surrender.

It would probably be good for these lucky men to discover the TRUTH AND THE WHOLE TRUTH about HOW IT IS they were CUT OFF FROM ALL ABILITY TO SEND OR RECEIVE COMMUNICATIONS!
