Tornado completely destroys the farm-castle of Bernistap, in the town of Houffalize in Belgium!
A tornado hit the hamlet of Bernistap, in the town of Houffalize: the site's emblematic square farm-castle was literally blown away.
The occupants were able to evacuate in time, as well as their animals. We only deplore the loss of an animal, on which a wall has collapsed. The farmers were able to be relocated with relatives. But their exploitation is completely destroyed. Residents spontaneously came to help the farmers.
Some other damage, more limited, is reported by firefighters elsewhere in the town: torn tiles, fallen trees ...
The mayor has scheduled an emergency meeting tomorrow to see how to help the farmers and try to save what remains of the classified farm.Nothing is yet clear about the strength of the tornado, but Buienradar meteorologist Reinier van den Berg speaks of 'a fairly large specimen'.
In Belgium, according to the KMI, the Belgian counterpart of the KNMI, three to five whirlwinds or tornadoes develop every year. In any case, this is already the second in a week.
Last weekend the damage in Beauraing in Belgium was enormous.
