Sudan’s government overthrown by military coup

An attempted military coup is underway against the civilian government in Sudan after the country’s leading general Abdel Fattah al Burhan dissolved the government and allegedly took control of leadership.

The civilian Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok was taken to an undisclosed location after refusing to support the coup and it is believed five other cabinet ministers have been arrested.

Pro-democracy protesters have taken to the streets of the country's capital of Khartoum in response.
