Renewable energy is 'coming again for your money' with hydrogen power
Earth scientist Professor Ian Plimer says using hydrogen as a renewable resource would be and dangerous as hydrogen can leak through pipelines and is extremely expensive and inefficient.
“Here they come again for your money, firstly it was wind, then it was solar, now they’ve put the two together and it’s hydrogen and what they’re trying to do is skin us alive forever,” he told Sky News host Cory Bernardi.
Professor Plimer said hydrogen had already been tried before and still does not work as hydrogen cannot be held in steel or trucks and can leak through the atmosphere.
“If you were to make hydrogen you lose a massive amount of energy doing it and then you’ve got to compress it only 700 times atmospheric pressure and that requires a huge amount of energy then you’ve got to liquefy it to -200 degrees Celsius and that requires a huge amount of energy.”
“We have extremely good technology now where we can convert fossilised sunlight into energy and that fossilised sunlight is called coal.”
