The feast of trumpets marks the beginning of the 7th month as related to the sighting of the new moon as outlined in Leviticus 23:23-25. It is the beginning of the year which is why it is often called Rosh Hashanah meaning "head [of the] year'. The biblical name for this holiday is Yom Teruah, literally "day of shouting or blasting".

The trumpets we associated with first of the fall holy days… are war trumpets, calling troops to battle. However, the trumpets are also a proclamation of rejoicing, and victory.

The trumpets of this day look forward to the trumpets that will sound when Christ returns to resurrect those who are His and usher them into life everlasting. This victory is for the person who overcomes... who masters and controls his or her own spirit. Who regulates what they do by God's command. Who submits to God.

The feast of trumpets is a day of war and turmoil. For those who are in Christ it is also a day of rejoicing, a day of reminder, a day of victory, and a day of new beginnings.
