Powerful Earthquake Shakes China's Sichuan, 3 Killed, Over 100 Injured. Over 1,400 Houses Collapsed.

The magnitude 6.0 quake occurred in the province’s Lu county at 4.33am. Three people are dead and at least 100 injured after a magnitude 6 earthquake shook Lu county in China’s southwestern province of Sichuan at 4.33am on Thursday (2021-09-16). More than 121,000 residents were affected and had been evacuated and over 10,000 people were shifted to temporary shelters. Over 1,400 houses have collapsed while 7,290 were damaged due to the intensity of the quake, the report said.

The injured people were rushed to nearby hospitals where the condition of three of them is stated to be critical.

A total of 890 commanders and fighters from nearby fire-fighting and rescue brigades have been mobilized, while another 4,600 rescue workers were sent to the affected area, after Sichuan’s earthquake relief headquarters and the local authorities initiated the highest and second-highest levels of emergency response this morning. The quake struck at a depth of 10km (6.2 miles), with the epicenter at 29.2 degrees north latitude and 105.34 degrees east longitude.
