NYPD Reports Shoplifting Levels Not Seen In Nearly 30 Years As Organized Retail Crime Ramps Up Nationwide

There's been a spike in shoplifting in New York City.

The NYPD says it hasn't seen levels like this since 1995, and elsewhere around the country, organized retail crime is ramping up.

Police say video shows a known shoplifter assaulting an NYPD officer at a Midtown Duane Reade.

"Seeing a sharp uptick in shoplifts that then turn into robberies," said Michael Lipetri, chief of NYPD crime patrol strategies.

Newsom July 4 ad targets DeSantis: 'Freedom is under attack'

California Gov. Gavin Newsom took aim at Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in a new campaign ad, claiming "freedom is under attack" in states such as Florida that are run by Republican governors.

"Your Republican leaders, they're banning books," Newsom says in the ad as images of DeSantis play on the screen. The California Democrat goes on to say Republican governors are also "making it harder to vote, restricting speech in classrooms, even criminalizing women and doctors."

Gov. Newsom Shocked California Looks Like ‘a Third World Country’

Californians have recently been treated to images of mountains of trash along the Union Pacific rail line in Los Angeles. CBS-LA reporter John Schreiber went to the site and took video of looted packages from Amazon and UPS, prescription drugs, “unused Covid tests, fishing lures, EpiPens. Cargo containers left busted open on trains.”

As you can see, trains frequently slow or stop in this area as they get worked into the @UnionPacific Intermodal facility near Downtown LA. The thieves use this opportunity to break open containers and take what’s inside. I’d say every 4th or 5th rail car had opened containers. pic.twitter.com/PHpujyB84M

Biden Admin Replaces 'Mothers' With 'Birthing People' in Maternal Health Guidance

The White House's 2022 fiscal year budget replaced the word mothers with birthing people in a section about public health funding, prompting ridicule Monday from President Joe Biden's conservative critics.

The Biden administration's budget includes a public health section which addresses efforts to "reduce maternal mortality rates and end race-based disparities in maternal mortality." The budget specifically addresses racial disparities between Black, American Indian/Alaska Native and other women of color
