Why Peter MacKay Is the Wrong Choice

MacKay’s history as minister of justice raises questions about his political fitness

Peter MacKay wants you to know that he’s happy to live in a country that has grown more accepting, more tolerant, and more understanding of the LGBTQ community, especially “in a world where sexual orientation and gender identity are still used by tyrants and bigots to belittle and oppress.” Even if Canada is better than most, MacKay insisted in a campaign statement, “there is still more work to be done.”

Well, at least that was MacKay’s position in January, when he was the presumptive front-runner in the Conservative Party of Canada leadership race. In late April, feeling pressure from his competitors, MacKay decided it was time to belittle people based on their gender identity. In a campaign missive sent off to supporters, MacKay politely chided Erin O’Toole, his main competitor in the race. “He’s been a good friend in the past,” MacKay wrote. “Someone I supported and worked with. While I haven’t always agreed with him, like when he voted in favour of the Transgender Rights ‘bathroom’ Bill in 2012, I’ve always respected that his motivations were positive.”

It’s Time To Blow Up Mount Rushmore

The violence in Charlottesville has renewed efforts by the Left to tear down all Confederate monuments.

The alt-right rally that took place over the weekend was premised on opposing the removal of a Robert E. Lee statue in the Virginia town. Now, with the notion that these site are magnets for neo-Nazis firmly planted in the minds of leftists, other monuments are being targeted for removal.

Seemingly to preempt any violent demonstrations, Lexington, Kentucky, announced Sunday that it was speeding up its removal of Confederate statues in the city.
On Monday, Durham, North Carolina let random demonstrators take a statue dedicated to boys who died fighting for the South. In a scene reminiscent of the Bolsheviks, a leftist mob pulled down the statue and then proceeded to kick it, spit on it and flip it off. Fort Bragg name change proposal fires up residents

Fort Bragg’s first in-person city council meeting of the Covid-19 era will be devoted to changing its name—something very few California cities have managed to do in the past century.

Following a succession of ebullient and peaceful Black Lives Matters protests in Fort Bragg as part of the national movement following the killing of George Floyd by police in Minneapolis, locals and out-of-towners demanded that the city axe the name of slave-owning Confederate General Braxton Bragg and come up with a new moniker.

Sadiq Khan’s London to erect statues celebrating mass migration while the city’s history is being erased

London’s Muslim mayor Sadiq Khan has turned London into a cesspool of crime, with heightened jihadist threats stemming in large part from mass migration. Meanwhile, Khan blames the coronavirus lockdown for his own “improper leadership,” which actually started at the beginning of his tenure as mayor.

Now, to add insult to injury, “two large sculptures celebrating mass migration will be unveiled in London next year.” This follows efforts to erase London history by Black Lives Matter and Sadiq Khan:

Black Lives Matter supporters have drawn up a “hit list” of dozens of statues after Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of London, said controversial monuments should be removed to avoid causing offence.

The Plateau Will Protect Montreal’s Famed Bagel Stores Under Wood-Fired Oven Law

And anything else that’s already open, for that matter

After momentarily overwrought worrying from concerned citizens, it turns out Montreal’s Plateau-Mont-Royal borough will protect existing businesses under its proposed ban on wood-fired ovens.

According to the Montreal Gazette, the borough will ban new restaurants from burning wood or charcoal to cook food. However, all existing businesses will be left untouched for the foreseeable future — that means bagel stores that fall within the borough, like St-Viateur and Fairmount Bagel, as well as popular Portuguese chicken rotisseries such as Romados and Ma Poule Mouillée.
