I dunno. And while I do have some recollection of seeing the footage which you reference, I have also become aware of an equally compelling insight which holds that once they arrived it became apparent they were not alone -- and that landing was unwise. So, to the extent that is true it would make sense that to 'fake' a landing to satisfy basic expectations of 'the public' would have been the only viable option at the time.

One other thing that leans me in favor of you being correct to the extent they did not actually land was a video showing another of these astronauts punch someone who pressed them with a 'gotcha'-type question, much like was seen in this video. The reaction of explosive rage makes sense IF IN FACT they HAD to keep a secret about what they saw which CAUSED THE NEED to 'fake' a landing. And if there is merit to this broader picture, then it is improper to denigrate their memory upon their respective deaths. Put yourself in such shoes -- IF IN FACT it were YOU as the astronaut, reaching your destination but seeing other entities with their own 'aircraft(s)' standing around a crater...and their was talk of some carnage seen also...would YOU have landed? And would it not be hard to put up with being openly shamed by the 'truthers' who found a GRAIN of the truth, but twisted that to mean that NONE of it was 'real'??
