A new spectacular eruption on Mount Etna in Catania, Sicily, was captured on Monday night as activity and quakes in Europe's largest volcano intensify.

A lava overflow has appeared now also on the north side of the southeast crater, according to the Etna Observatory of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology.

It's also possible to hear several claps of thunder in the footage, which is commonly produced by volcanic ashes.

Etna's ongoing eruption has been going on for several months, alternating different intensities of Strombolian activity.
