An IRS Power of Attorney allows an individual (referred to as the agent) to file taxes on behalf of another individual (called the principal).

There are limitations as to who may be granted power of attorney and the scope of the administrative duties possessed by the agent. Typically, a Form 2848 may only be administered to lawyers, accountants, family members of the principal, or others with tax-preparation experience.
