Horse Boat, Capstan, Lancastrian Developments. 1730/1812. World’s Longest Covered Bridge. Fulton.
Howdy ya’ll. The channel has reached a huge milestone in achieving 20 thousand subscribers. To celebrate, I’ve composed a video which incorporates something I have never heard discussed before; that is, The Team Boat, AKA The Horse Boat.
This is a boat, powered by horses, which, in doing some digging, played an integral role in engineering history. Today we will discuss the Horse Boat, as well as the ties the Horse Boat has to the Capstan, to future Boats, to the history of Propellers, and we will look at the earliest Horse Boats which appeared in and around Lancaster County Pennsylvania.
We will also focus on reviewing the earliest known photographs of these creations. It’s amazing to me how in one small area, we see a cornucopia of rapid evolution in the fields of engineering and construction. We will look at Robert Fulton, Steam Ships, Screw Propellers, The 1730 Wright’s Ferry, Animal Powered Ferries, The 1789 National Capital bid, and the World’s Largest Covered Bridge, Built in 1812, which stretched over one mile long across the width of the Susquehanna River in Lancaster County.
I’d love to hear your thoughts and comments on any of these ideas down below. Relevant links will be posted below. Again, thank you so much for helping the channel grow to 20 thousand subscribers. Happy Holidays, & Enjoy!
