Section C of Phenomenology of Spirit opens with the accidental discovery of the Cartesian cogito from the figure of the medieval priest who can access the universal truths without having to leave his own mind. Section 7 is largely however Hegel's critique of why Kant's style of Idealism is not good enough because it cannot escape the paradox of being both too empty of content and too filled with empirical data at once.
