Just as the fifth section gave us the slave and master, the sixth section features three very memorable characters: the stoic, the skeptic, and the unhappy consciousness (the medieval ascetic Christian.) Also, this section is historical like the slave-master dialectic was but here we actually do find ourselves in a specific historical period such as Ancient Rome and then Medieval Christianity. Although this is the final phase of the /B/ Self-Consciousness section, all three of these figures are still failures to embody the notion because each is still an individual who misses the point that self-consciousness is social consciousness
