Florida governor does ‘what’s right’ in banning transgender females from women’s sports
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis says he’s "protecting women’s sports and opportunities” after signing the controversial education bill to ban transgender female athletes from competing in high school and women’s sports.
"In Florida, we're going to do what's right and we won't be cowed by pressure from woke corporations,” Mr DeSantis said.
“They will not dictate the policies in Florida - not now, not ever.
“Florida will stand strong and protect women's sports and opportunities.”
The SB 1029 bill – known as the Fairness in Women’s Sports Act - has been criticised by Democrats for discriminating against transgender women.
"By signing a heartless ban on transgender kids in sports, Governor Ron DeSantis is marginalizing an entire community,” Democrat Nikki Fried tweeted.
"Signing it on the first day of Pride2021 is especially cruel."
