A torrential downpour flooded the streets of New Orleans. The flood waters flooded the streets of several New Orleans neighborhoods, and Metairie was not spared from the downpour. The police blocked off the streets, but some drivers tried to get through the floodwaters and unfortunately he was trapped. Several residents I spoke with said that construction work on Bayou Road made the flooding of this street worse as debris clogged the drains. Severe storms swept through the area, causing great inconvenience to motorists. Says Felton, "We've been in the community for 15 years and we've never had a flooding problem." Now it's getting worse. He said that when flooding occurs, water gets into his home. "This is one of the highest streets in New Orleans. For Hurricane Katrina, the water would never make it to the curb," Felton said.
