15 Photos That Show How Deserted Airplanes And Airports Are Right Now

Right now, thousands of people across the nation are practicing social distancing to flatten the curve of COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus. While it's not entirely surprising that very few people are traveling, it's shocking to see just how empty flights are right now.

For some people, traveling is essential. If it is not essential for you, the CDC recommends staying home and continuing to practice social distancing.

California secures over 15,000 hotel rooms for homeless during coronavirus pandemic, Newsom says

California has acquired over 15,000 hotel rooms to shelter homeless people during the coronavirus pandemic, Gov. Gavin Newsom said Saturday.

Newsom said a new agreement with the Motel 6 hotel chain will provide an additional 5,025 hotel rooms at 47 locations in 19 counties.

“Today marks an important milestone for our efforts to protect very vulnerable homeless individuals from COVID-19, and to protect our hospitals more broadly from surges that challenge our capacity and stress our system,” the governor said.

Hotels 'caught off guard' by Victoria's request to use rooms for the homeless

The City of Victoria is calling for the British Columbia government to take over its empty hotels and motels as a solution to housing the homeless during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Victoria council passed an emergency resolution calling on the provincial government to use its powers to house those without homes in empty hotels across the region.

"There are a number of hotels and motels fully closed that may welcome some source of revenue from the provincial government,'' Mayor Lisa Helps said on Friday. "I don't care how people get inside; if it's hotels, motels, arenas, community centres, it doesn't matter to me.''

Trudeau just tried to overturn the election results

He may have backed off, but Prime Minister Justin Trudeau wanted to overturn the results of the last election and stage what would have amounted to a constitutional coup d’état

That may sound like hyperbole, but it is not. Under cover of the COVID-19 emergency, the Liberal government intended to present a bill granting the Minister of Finance power to borrow, spend and raise taxes, bail out companies and guarantee pools of debt, all without Parliamentary approval, until the end of 2021. Some of these initiatives may be needed, but it would be an outrageous assault on parliamentary democracy to give untrammelled power to the executive branch.

Democracy sidestepped in ban on assault-style firearms, say Conservative MPs in B.C. Interior

A B.C. online petition against Canada’s newest gun ban has gathered more than 25,000 signatures since its inception just three days ago.

The petition says the ban, introduced this month by the federal Liberals, will strip law-abiding Canadians of their legally-purchased property.

The petition, found here, also says the ban will not be effective in preventing crime, and is asking the federal government to repeal the Order in Council made on May 1.
