The Russian branch of Greenpeace reported an environmental disaster in the area of Khalaktyrsky beach (exit to the Pacific Ocean).
Experts found in the water samples the excess for oil products by 4 times, for phenol - by 2.5 times. So far, neither the source nor the extent of the pollution is clear.
The environmental prosecutor's office has begun an inspection.
Local residents were the first to announce the tragedy. They reported a change in the color of the ocean water. People began to seek help with complaints of nausea, vomiting, weakness, and high fever. All these are symptoms of poisoning.
The victims also complained of sore throat and burns of the cornea of the eyes. Experts say it could be phenol poisoning.
It washes away dead animals ashore: octopuses, crabs, sea urchins.
