Golden State tarnished: Ex-pats reveal ‘why we left California for good’

It’s official: California dreamin’ has become a nightmare.

According to the California Policy Lab, which is affiliated with the University of California, the number of people leaving the state is up 12 percent since before COVID-19.

In fact, there are more people heading out than coming in.

Even before the pandemic, a survey from Edelman Intelligence found that more than half of residents in California said they wanted to high-tail it to another state. Among millennial residents, it was almost two-thirds.

California governor responds to recommended reparations payments for Black residents

California’s governor responded Wednesday to the reparations payments for some Black state residents that were recommended by a task force looking at how to mitigate injustices and discrimination stemming from slavery.

Gov. Gavin Newsom called the recommendations “a milestone in our bipartisan effort to advance justice and promote healing.” He added, “We need to wait for the Task Force to finish its work and submit its final report,” without offering any further details about whether he supports the recommendations put forth.

“We are waiting for the process to be completed,” Newsom, a Democrat who is White, said in a statement.

The recommendations approved Saturday outline restitution that, if approved by state lawmakers, could cost billions of dollars to address historical disparities in health care, housing and policing.

“Dealing with the legacy of slavery is about much more than cash payments,” Newsom said in his statement.

California First To Cover Health Care For All Undocumented Immigrants

California on Thursday became the first state to guarantee free health care for all low-income immigrants living in the country illegally, a move that will provide coverage for an additional 764,000 people at an eventual cost of about $2.7 billion a year.

Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a $307.9 billion operating budget that pledges to make all low-income adults eligible for the state’s Medicaid program by 2024 regardless of their immigration status. It’s a long-sought victory for health care and immigration activists, who have been asking for the change for more than a decade.

California State and Local Liabilities Total $1.6 Trillion

California’s total state and local government debt now stands at almost $1.6 trillion, or about half the state’s GDP.

That isn’t an alarming ratio when compared to the national debt, which has now soared to 128 percent of U.S. GDP with no end in sight. But Californians carry this $1.6 trillion state and local debt ($40,000 per capita) in addition to their share of the national debt (about $90,000 per capita).

Above: USA today repeats fake history claim that California had a “slavery legacy”, when slavery NEVER existed there. Not when it was part of Mexico before 1846. Not when it became part of the United States.
