California Earthquake Today: Magnitude 4.4 earthquake strikes near Eureka, California, April 2, 2021

A 4.4-magnitude earthquake was reported at 1:21 a.m. Friday 29 miles from Fortuna, California, according to the US Geological Survey.
The earthquake struck 37 miles from Eureka, 44 miles from Arcata and 49 miles from McKinleyville.
In the past 10 days, there have been two earthquakes of magnitude 3.0 or more centered nearby.
An average of 25 earthquakes of magnitude 4.0 to 5.0 occur annually in California and Nevada, according to a recent three-year data sample.
The earthquake occurred at a depth of 5.0 miles.
