Well, every once in a while in mass production a lemon leaves the factory. Unfortunately, I ended up with one of said lemons. The Gold 10 has patterned well so far and been a blast to shoot, but it has not been all that reliable with Federal loads, and a couple Winchester loads. Here we take a deep dive into what may be the gremlins living in my sample size of one, before it ships off to Browning for service.

Round count and firing reports as of 3/12/2020:

Browning Gold 10 Light (28”)

2/14/20 - Purchased. Field stripped and factory grease whipped off. No lube added.

2/15/20 - first test fire. 35 rounds fired, 5 malfunctions.
Fed Blue Box (1-1/2oz): 25 rnds, 1 FTF, 2 FTE’s
Win. Drylok (1-3/8oz): 5 rounds, 2 FTE (weak ejection)
Fed. Prem. BC (1-5/8oz): 5 Rounds, 0 malf.

*** shotgun field stripped and whipped down, lubed with Sprinco machinegunners lube. Action smoother and feeling slicker. Drycylces shells fine. Need to get correct Allen head driver to open up receiver extension and clean spring.

2/17/20 - 4 rounds fired, no failures
Win. Double X Turkey (2oz): 1 round
Fed. Prem. Flight Control Turkey (2oz): 1 round
Fed. Prem. BC (1-5/8oz): 2 rounds

2/22/2020 - 6 rounds fired on Hunt, 0 Failures. Extra lube put on bolt and raceways night before the hunt.

2/23/2020 - hunt on river. 5 shots fired, 2 failures to Eject. (4 at garbage to pattern while no birds, 1 at geese.) need to clean action spring tube and see if that is the issue. Does not seem to like being held tightly and fired.

2/26/2020 - action spring tube opened up and thoroughly cleaned of factory grease.

3/01/20 - range day, 14 rounds fired. 7 rounds BC 1-5/8oz. 1 failure to eject (last round of 2 when mom shooting, hung in ejection port and sat on shell lifter.) 5 rounds Win drylok, no failures. 2 rounds Fed Grand Slam 2oz - ejection strong, will not feed due to long OAL. (Counting 2 FTF)

***Winchester hulls measure 3-2/3” and are the most reliable. Hulls are smoother than Federals too. For factory steel loads, Winchester is better operations wise.

***Round count to date: 64
***Total Failures: ~10 (FTF, FTE
