Heavy rain in northern, northeastern and central Thailand worsened severe flooding in many parts of the country on Monday, as authorities ordered the release of water into already overflowing rivers from dams that were filled to capacity.

Many areas were already flooded from seasonal monsoon rains when the remnants of Tropical Storm Noru, which earlier tore through the Philippines and Vietnam, swept through parts of the country last week.

In Bangkok, authorities reported that 104mm and 93mm of rain fell in the Laksi and Bang Na districts, while moderate rainfall was reported in other districts. Over a dozen motorcycles were stranded on the roadside as water clogged their engines.

In Bangkok's nearby Nonthaburi province, overflows from the swollen Chao Phraya River and heavy rain have flooded roads near the Nonthaburi pier and in front of the Interior College.

In addition, a new sandbag flood wall, extending about 10km, has been built with over 300,000 sandbags, to protect the economic zone in Nonthaburi.

Thai Meteorological Department forecasts heavy rain for many parts of the country, including Greater Bangkok, for most of this week.

The channel lists such natural disasters as:
1) Geological emergencies: Earthquake, Volcanic eruption, Mud, Landslide, Avalanche;
2) Hydrological emergencies: Flood, Tsunami, Limnological disaster,
3) Fires: Forest fire, Peat fire;
4) Meteorological emergencies: Tornado, Cyclone, Blizzard, Hail, Drought, Tornado, Hail, Hurricane, Tsunami, Storm, Thunderstorm, Tempest.
