This color film from 1964 illustrates the basics in firearm safety in the home, and includes examples of how to inspect several types of firearms to ensure they are not loaded and safe to handle. After Mrs. Johnson accidentally discharges a carelessly placed shotgun in the basement rec room, a narrator explains how to handle each of the Johnson family’s firearms, and even provides some backstory on each weapon. Guns examined here include a Savage Model 99 lever action rifle, a Winchester Model 52 .22 bolt action target rifle, a 12-gauge pump action shotgun, a Smith & Wesson .38 revolver, a P08 Luger pistol, and an antique flintlock rifle. After all firearms have been examined, the narrator invites Mrs. Johnson to inspect and unload the same shotgun she had had a run in with earlier.
