New York Post columnist Miranda Devine has slammed Andrew Cuomo after he received $5 million for writing his COVID memoir - calling the profits “blood money”.

“Andrew Cuomo was doing things that were actively, demonstrably killing people,” she said.

“And now he’s made $5 million and that works out, that’s blood money.

"That’s $100 per dead New Yorker. I hope he enjoys it.”

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s newly released taxes showed he will be paid $5 million for his COVID-19 memoir which will detail his handling of the pandemic.

Mr Cuomo has been under intense scrutiny for his state government's handling of the coronavirus pandemic.

An investigation found the New York governor let COVID-19 positive patients back into nursing homes, in turn infecting other residents.

It also found the state government had underreported nursing home deaths by up to 50 per cent.

Angry Americans took to social media to slam the governor for his massive paycheck.

“How about Andrew Cuomo donate his advance to a NY coronavirus relief fund to, you know, help the people he's profiting off of,” one user wrote.
