This footage was captured in early February of 2019. I told the guys that I would have this film put together by the spring of that year. I wasn’t lying. I fully intended to get it done. But two weeks after we returned, I landed a large project with my day job, and it took six months to complete. Then I landed another and another. Time slipped away and I eventually accepted that I had over promised on this project. I was afraid they were angry with me, but as usual, the men who are featured in this film showed me grace and understanding. Not one ill word was said. At least not to my face.
So, thank you Mark, Eric, Kain, and Larry, for being patient for three years. This film is past due, but still about you and for you.

I ran out of work with my day job two weeks ago. I wasn’t sure where to direct my time. Browsing through my cloud files, I saw the giant folder Mark Newbill had named, CAMP DEATH WISH, and there sat all that footage I had almost forgotten.
When I played the interviews, the sound was awful. The footage was not usable in that state. But in the three years since we camped in the mountains, I have learned about digital audio while creating podcasts. I pulled up one file and manipulated the audio. When I played it back, it sounded good. I spent two days fixing the audio in the pile of videos.
I knew then how I would spend the next few days. I got busy putting this thing together and had a blast doing it.

I have watched many Bigfoot films and documentaries. Most of them are slapped together and ALL of them are about Bigfoot evidence. The videos are crammed with blurry images and videos that show nothing, and are littered with audio tracks of noises that are claimed to be Bigfoot. I didn’t want to make that sort of film. That horse has been rode into the dirt.
And then there are the documentaries that ambush the people who search for Bigfoot. The film makers who do these have one intent – to make the subjects look as stupid as possible. I didn’t want to do that either. It’s just a nasty thing to do to people.
I wanted to follow my interest, and that interest is always in the people who surround a subject. I wanted to make a film about the men who do this – NOT the creature they search for. A documentary showing the real side of the people who genuinely have a drive to hunt for Bigfoot. Most of all, I wanted to tell a story.

Making these films is not easy. Every task along the way is difficult and time consuming. I’m not sure if I want to do it again. The video is uploading as I write this and I find myself wondering who, when, and where, I might be able to meet more interesting people willing to get in front of a camera to tell me why they do what they do. Maybe I have the bug. Time will tell.
I hope you enjoy a different sort of documentary – sort of on the subject of Bigfoot.

Last, Thank you April, my bride, for your encouragement and patience while I have jumped off into a creative endeavor that you probably didn’t suspect was there. The last three years have been fun with your input and your constant interest in what I am going to do next. You’ve made this whole experience a thousand times more fun.
