Failed to mention when installing a new piston and rings and/or cylinder to check ring end gaps. My piston and rings only had about twenty hours on them and were checked when last installed new. It is highly unlikely that the ring gaps would be to large (worn out rings or cylinder) with the low hours. I probably should have checked them anyway but forgot. I also realized I had made an error when locating the ring gaps on the piston. The oil control ring gaps should have been located forward (exhaust) side and the top compression ring gap to the rear (intake). I did that backwards! Not that worried about it and I'm not taking the engine apart again just for ring gap locations. Ring gaps often do not stay in the same location on the piston after the engine has been running. They often migrate around the piston especially when new anyway.
